Placemats and throws

There are times here in Cape Breton when it rains and rains. It’s been raining here now for 12 hours straight. Good weather for weaving in the studio and for updating the blog! There are three sets of placemats recently completed. The first set I called a “sampler” because each mat is slightly different; even so they look beautiful together on a table, making for an interesting table setting.

The placemat sets have 6 in each (though could be broken into sets of two and four). They are 100% cotton, machine washable. They would benefit from ironing.

And now I have moved on to weaving a set of three mohair throws. The mohair is absolutely gorgeous, soft and silky to the touch. But it can be a bit tricky to handle as one thread tends to stick to its neighbouring thread. But altogether not as bad as it might have been. The one throw in progress is a patchwork of colour. The other two will be different – one will have one solid colour woven throughout so it will have muted stripes – not yet sure about the third. The throws will be washed and brushed as part of their finishing.

Throws are 100% mohair. Handwash. Finished dimensions approximately 41″ x 70″.
